Welcome to September's issue of Black Family Magazine. A few things have happened this month that have changed our lives on a grand level, if not just our perceptions.
In addition to commemorating the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, we witnessed the tremendous destruction Hurricane Katrina caused in New Orleans, Louisiana, leaving millions displaced. Families have been separated, elderly have died, pets have been abandoned, children have been lost and violence has erupted.
This disaster has caused a major uproar in the face of perceived slow response, possibly tainted in racism. Lest we forget, our government is extremely fallible and has shown a few shortcomings during the term of this administration.
If we had experienced such disasters in the past 20 years, the government may have been prepared to deal, however as we all know so very well now, there are plenty of wholes in the Washington process and Americans are now paying for it with their lives.
