Principles For Living

#20: Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

By MBA

I received this forward email a few days ago and quickly glanced over it because after all, it came from one of those relatives who, when they say "I don't usually send this kind of stuff", it gives you extra motivation to go in for a quick peek.

Upon reading this forwarded list which, apparently, had to be forwarded in 6 minutes in order for you to reap universal benefits, I noticed that it had gone to no less than 100 people in the span of an hour -during the day no less. Not only that but it was said to have originated from the Anthony Robbins organization. Of course I cannot confirm nor deny this information at time of press. However, yesterday I realized how much of an impact this very message made on certain people when I heard about its contents from 3 people in plain conversation.

Needless to say the next morning, I made my way down to my laptop and decided to read it over again with new found patience. I am glad I did because now I shall share it with you. There's some mighty fine advice in these words, I would even call them "Principles for Living". I reckon you really don't have to forward to anyone in 6 minutes to better your life, but I bet that if you applied these principles to your life, you will most likely be a happier person. This in turn will impact your family and loved ones, even those people you interact with everyday.

Oh and of course, feel free to share this with anyone.

  1. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

  2. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

  3. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

  4. When you say, "I love you," mean it.

  5. When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.

  6. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

  7. Believe in love at first sight.

  8. Never laugh at anyone's dream. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

  9. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

  10. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

  11. Don't judge people by their relatives.

  12. Talk slowly but think quickly.

  13. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"

  14. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

  15. Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

  16. When you lose, don't lose the lesson

  17. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and responsibility for all your actions.

  18. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

  19. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

  20. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

  21. Spend some time alone.
